Study on the Leaf Structure and Growth Potential as Affected by BCR Film Covering in Raising Seedlings of Red Pepper under STructure

Abstract
This work was carried out to elucidate the relationship between the growth performance of red pepper seedlings grown under thin plastic coverings made of either polyethylene (PE), a blue color removing (BCR) film and the structural characteristics of leaves in terms of such parameters as leaf volume density, thickness and internal gas volume. The results obtained arc as follows:
1. The plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, leaf dry weight, stem dry weight and root dry weight and leaf chlorophyll content of red pepper seedlings were increased in BCR film covering plot than PE film covering plot.
2. Leaf fresh weight, leaf volume, and the internal gas volume and the volume of the internal air space of leaves were found to be the largest in the middle part of leaves: the values of the structural parameters of leaves were larger in the plot of BCR film covering regardless of leaf position. Leaf volume and thickness were decreased with higher position of leaves.
3. Average leaf fresh weight, leaf volume, the volume of internal air space, percent leaf volume, the volume of nongaseoes leaf content and the density of nongaseous leaf content were larger in the plots of BCR film covering while leaf density and thickness were smaller in the plots of BCR film covering that in the blots of YE film covering.
